| Greek film A Touch of Spice is a story about a young Greek boy (Fanis) growing up in Costantinoupolis, whose grandfather, a culinary philosopher and mentor, teaches him that both food and life require a little salt to give them flavor; they both require – A Touch of Spice. This film reminds me of movies such as Cinema Paradiso and Amelie. If you like the bitter sweet moments in Cinema Paradiso or the animated filming style + vivid colors projected in Amelie, then you might want to take a look at A Touch of Spice. Plus, I am sure we all like delicious cuisins and wine, and I think the Greek food portrayed in this film look very yummy. ;P |

Music – Mongolian Pastoral Folk Song ~ Sound of the Prairie
Do you enjoy the experiences of traveling or being somewhere vicariously through a media/song/person/book/poem? Last Friday I randomly accept my friend’s last minute invitation to this concert. With one or no musical instrument at all, these eight Mongolians sang without microphone, and yet, their voices reached every angle of the house. When I closed my eyes, I could see a boundless prairie. What’s more, I felt all kinds of emotions through their beautiful voices.
Film – 2046

2046 (site in Chinese) by Kar Wai Wong is a Chinese film worth seeing. Some finds it boring or plagued by too much sex, but the film reminds me of “Closer.” It’s a story about how we struggle to break out from the past, the memories; how we keep making the same mistakes, trying to be different, but only to see our efforts in vain.
2046 on IMDB. |
Film – Eros
|
3 short films collectively called Eros by Kar Wai Wong (segment “The Hand”), Steven Soderbergh (segment “Equilibrium”) and Michelangelo Antonioni (segment “Il filo pericoloso delle cose”) Personally I only enjoyed watching “The Hand.” Both “Equilibrium” and “Il Filo Pericoloso Delle Cose” were a bit too boring and artzy for my taste, although Soderbergh’s other works are not bad at all. On a side note, I like the soundtracks for Eros’s “The Hand,” especially the song “Michelangelo Antonioni” sang by Caetano Veloso. |
