Album – Soulmates by Nobody (Trip Hop)

Arts — Kohn @ 9:49 am
I like trip hop, but I don’t like the down I usually experience after, sometimes even while listening to it. The dark and obscure soundscape pertaining specifically to trip hop is at times a bit too gloomy for me to handle. But then again that kind of airy sad sound is what makes the music unique, but I wish there’s something out there that actually does give me a good, laid-back trip, but won’t put me to sleep. Well, Nobody did a good job with Soulmates. Ambient sounds of rain drops, topped with a smokey trumpet or a funky flute, a simple bass line and groovy beats, plus some rapping, not bad playing in the background for a quiet Saturday night staying in. It’s not going to drag you down, unless you inevitably realize that the weekend is coming to an end.

QQQ by Nullpointer is a project that intends to modify games such as Quake III (the image to the right is rendered by a modified Quake III engine) into an art machine that generates abstract graphic designs. This is game mods at its best in my book, a intelligent hack not just for the geeks, but for the artzy fartzy’s too!

Band – Sofamecca

Arts — martink @ 10:27 pm

Inventive Australian group Sofamecca return to release their latest collection of widescreen urban mixes under the title ‘Commuters’.

On this new outing we discover a joyfully moody and darkly compelling view of urban life – eleven tracks of lush guitars, unruly beats and precocious synths providing the backdrop for the late night melancholy of tracks like ‘There and Then’, to the tongue in cheek musings of ‘Omar Sharif’ and wistful romanticism of ‘Saturdays’.

Once again produced and recorded by Sofamecca, ‘Commuters’ takes the listener on an intriguing journey into their experimental DIY landscape and at times plays like a modern day ’spaghetti western’, with several tracks already earmarked for upcoming film projects including the new Australian film ‘Rats and Cats’ from the producers of the movie ‘One Perfect Day’.

“…the band has a steady grasp on where ambience ends and real late-night, bruised-hearted atmosphere begins…” Rolling Stone AUS

For the adventurous at heart, Sofamecca offer another unusual but remarkable release . . .

Short Film – The Overpass

Arts, Thoughts — Kohn @ 7:04 pm
Here’s my first attempt to make a short film – The Overpass. This movie is about the insecurity that we all have in a relationship, the irrational, unwarranted doubt that love is merely a transient facade that will not survive the test of time. So should we just let go and hope that “the one” will inevitably one day show up in our house like Santa, or should we hold onto something knowing that there could be someone else better out there? If you have your own short films that you would like to share, please use the Suggest Something Fartzy link on the upper right hand corner and let us know.
